El texto se ocupa del significado político de la Ciudad Universitaria de Madrid, desde su creación en mayo de 1927 hasta la caída de la monarquía. Aborda la posición de sus promotores, un conjunto de catedráticos conservadores y católicos agrupados en torno a Alfonso XIII, y el alcance que tuvo en la política universitaria y en la acción cultural en el exterior. Analiza su caracterización internacional, que tuvo como punto de partida la relación con Hispanoamérica, y abarcó también los Estados Unidos y Europa, así como la intensa campaña propagandística que quiso hacer de la Ciudad Universitaria madrileña el ejemplo más expresivo de la renovación y modernización de España. Y presta especial atención a su utilización como instrumento eficaz para reactivar el hispanoamericanismo.
Abstract
The text deals with the political significance of the University City of Madrid, from its creation in May 1927 to the fall of the monarchy. It addresses the position of its promoters, a group of conservative and Catholics professors grouped around Alfonso XIII, and its reach in university politics and foreign cultural action. The text analyses the international characterization of the University City of Madrid, which had the relationship with Spanish America as a starting point, and also covered the United States and Europe, as well as the intense propaganda campaign that would turn this University City into the most expressive example of the renovation and modernization of Spain. And it also pays special attention to its use as an effective tool to revive Spanish-Americanism.
